Little is known about the extent, background, and consequences of child abuse and relational violence in Curaçao. This makes it difficult to determine exactly what is happening and how serious the problem is. The police keep records and have seen an increase in the number of reports and complaints related to relational violence.
In 2012, research was conducted to find out how many residents of Curaçao are affected by relational violence, and the nature of the violence was also examined. In the latest national school health survey, conducted in 2015, young people were asked about their experiences with abuse and relational violence.
